About Dumbass

"Only an idiot would waste his time on unanswerable questions...
We do so with sound."

Dumbass is an experimental music project from Vancouver
Canada who have been pushing sonic and thematic
boundaries for over a decade.

Their sound moves from the harsh din of so-called
"industrial music" to flirtations with jazz, rock, electronica,
and even folk - from pure noise to surreal soundscapes.

"The negative form of the self exercises a loosening power as well as a
binding power; at any time it can quite arbitrarily start all over again,
and no matter how long one idea is pursued, the entire action is within
a hypothesis."

About Dumbass Performances

Dumbass performances come in many shapes and sizes.
These include, but are not limited to:

Standard Performances - Instrumentation is varied, but
typically consists of two guitars, or guitar and bass,
keyboard, vocals, and programmed electronic percussion
and synthesizers. These are performances of material from
Dumbass albums in a man/machine format.

Improvisational Performances - These typically come in one
of two varieties: with or without standard instrumentation
(i.e. guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, etc.). Performances
without standard instruments have used everything from
children's toys, scrap metal, plastic, wood, etc. sampled
classical music, vocalisations, effects loops, etc. These can
range from melodic to pure noise (noise performances are a
subset of this group).

Site-Specific Performances - These performances are all
about interacting with specific locations. Dumbass'
performance in a partially demolished shopping mall, using
the very ruins of the mall itself as instruments would be a
prime example.

Acoustic Performances - There are Dumbass songs that lend
themselves particularly well to a stripped down approach.
